SAF is working to engage in discussions about the opportunities that woody biomass could present to states crafting plans that integrate new and existing sources of renewable energy into state plans. The EPA and the states will continue to explore the role of woody biomass in these plans and SAF will work to educate the states about the viability of woody biomass as an energy source as plans are developed over the next two years.
The EPA responded to the SAF request to extend the comment period for the Notice of Opportunity To Provide Information On Existing Programs That Protect Water Quality From Forest Road Discharges. EPA provided an additional 45 days for comment and John Barnwell, SAF Governmental Affairs and External Relations, is in the process of working to convene a group to prepare and submit comments on behalf of SAF before the new February 12 deadline. This group includes leaders of the Water Resources Working Group and representatives from the Committee on Forest Policy. Please contact John at email@example.com if you are interested in contributing to comment team efforts on this topic.
