october meeting announcement

executive board meeting: The next Executive Board meeting will be September 30.
date: October 28, 6:30pm, Charburger Country Restaurant
program: Andrew Lembreck, Wildfire Preparedness Coordinator with WUS Extension, Stevenson WA
topic: Andrew will discuss the National Fire Plan project and will show GIS results of the fuel and dwelling mapping. This project evaluates forest fuel loading in at risk areas of the Gorge. Hood River, Wasco, Skamania and Klickitat counties are being rated. The ratings are being incorporated into a GIS database to give local fire departments pre-disaster assessments of at risk communities.

last meeting

At the last meeting Rick Strachan graciously showed several members and small woodland owners the reforestation and wetland improvement projects he has undertaken. The wetland restoration work done was very interesting. Rick has volunteered the use of his property for a tour anytime you or your organization might be interested.

future meeting topics

Your executive committee is requesting ideas for future meeting topics. Even general themes suggestions would be helpful. Contact me or any of your exec committee members with your ideas.

call for officers

The chapter will need replacement officers this fall. If you are willing to serve please contact Ole Helgerson or contact any of us to discuss the process. It is a very rewarding professional development experience.

november chapter meeting

The November meeting will be held Wednesday, November 12, 6:30pm at the Charburger in Hood River. We plan to have Vic Kazinski, a consulting fisheries biologist, as speaker. Vic gave a very persuasive talk about the riparian buffers at the OSAF conference in May. We'll have him discuss this issue and take another look at riparian buffers. Note meeting date change. We continue to have problems with meeting attendance. If you have input as to what is the best time, place, location or meeting topic please contact me or one of the officers.

electronic newsletter

The chapter doesn't have the ability yet to send the newsletter out this way yet. We would need all members email address and everyone has not given their address to the national office. The best we can do is post it on websites. The state society requests that chapter newsletters be forwarded to Leslie Batten the OSAF webmaster. I do this when I send the newsletter to the Northwest office. The newsletter is posted on the state society page within a day or two of me sending it to them. If this is a more convenient way to check out the newsletter please do so.
