Marvin L. Rowley, SAF Fellow

This past year, three members of the Marys Peak chapter worked together to officially nominate a very deserving candidate for the honor of SAF Fellow. After many months of deliberation and review at the National level, it was announced this summer that Marvin Rowley has been accepted into the SAF Fellows. This month we will be honoring Marvin at our September meeting, and will get to hear a first-hand synopsis of his career and what he's learned over the years.

Only 5% of SAF members will have the honor of being a Fellow, so this award presentation is a unique opportunity to hear what one of the brightest and best of our society has to say.

Kids Day for Conservation

Saturday, October 3, 10:00am - 4:00pm, Benton County Fair Grounds

Over 40 companies, agencies, and organizations are coming together the first Saturday in October to reach out to kids in our community, and this year, the Marys Peak SAF chapter will be there to help too. We're putting together an increment boring and tree ring counting activity, and would love input or assistance from any members. We're also looking for help setting up Friday afternoon if you're busy on Saturday. Contact Jim Stuart () for more info at 541.336.6228.

If you don't care to commit to helping, consider bringing your kids or grandkids to the benton County Fair grounds for a few hours anyway. This event is completely free, and will provided kids of ALL ages a wide variety of hands-on natural resource activities like harnessing wind and solar energy, building birdhouses, and much, much more.

Upcoming Meetings

October: We are busy planning a breakfast meeting to be held with high school students from Philomath, Scio, and Sweet Home. We will have a guest speaker from SAF speak about careers in forestry, and we need your help to act as a mentor for the day.

November: November's guest speaker will be bringing us all up to date on the latest products and capabilities from TDS & Trimble. From handheld data collectors to GPS hardware, we'll learn what options we have available to get the job done.
