February 16 Chapter Dinner Meeting
Our February chapter dinner meeting will be held Tuesday, the 16th, at the Black Bear Diner in Medford. Social time begins about 6:00 and we will begin ordering off the menu about 6:30. Our speaker will be Victoria Sturtevant and her topic is "Social Aspects of Forestry". Victoria taught sociology and environmental studies at SOU from 1980-2008. Her research focuses on social dimensions of forest management, particularly community involvement in forest management policy, social assessments, ecological monitoring, wildfire planning and collaborative stewardship. She has worked with several local groups, contributes to various government workshops and reports, published articles (including in the Journal of Forestry), and has co-edited the book, Forest Community Connections.
Magness Tree Farm Camp
Our executive committee has voted to contribute up to $300 to help send 2-3 local middle school kids to the Magness Tree Farm Camp in June. If anyone has a name suggestion for a possible camp candidate please contact Brian Schlaefli.
Firewood Project Complete
With a group work day on 1/23 and hauling a few loads on 1/30 we completed the current chapter firewood project. Armo reports we ended up with 7.9 cords of madrone cut/split/delivered and with this wood the chapter will clear about $1,179 after expenses from this fundraising project. Thanks to all who have helped out and to Forest Capital Partners for providing the logs. If you have an expense to turn into Armo please do so soon.
