Directions: Take the southernmost of 3 Cannon Beach exists off Highway 101.The restaurant is straight west from the exit, on the beach.
Social half-hour: 5:30pm

Program: 7:00pm. Carl Cornthwaite, Site Manager, H&H Wood Recycling, Inc. Woody Biomass Harvesting and Utilization on the North Coast. Carl will discuss growing opportunities for utilization of forest harvest residues for energy markets; recent experience with processing of slash from the December 2007 windstorm; yarding and processing equipment, operations and strategies for efficient collection and processing; and future direction and opportunities for utilization of woody biomass on the N. Coast.

April Meeting Representative Deborah Boone provided a Legislative Update and Commentary on North Coast Forestry. In addition to being our State Representative (District 32), Deborah is also a local forest owner and she is very familiar with forestry issues in our region. Highlights include the current tone of Salem politics, her efforts to get legislators to work together, coastal LIDAR legislation, and renewable energy legislation.
Camp Kiwanilong Seven SAF members helped with the annual cleanup at Camp Kiwanilong. In addition to trail clearing, we cut lots of scotch broom.
Gnat Creek Sixth Grade Tour Glenn Ahrens is organizing a youth education field day at the Gnat Creek Hatchery on May 21. Two SAF members are involved and more help is needed for forestry learning stations.
upcoming events
June TBA Summer Field Tour. Bill Lecture will lead a tour of forest restoration efforts he is working on for The Nature Conservancy in the Willapa Bay area. Outstanding old-growth stands and active management for future old growth will be featured.
