The mission of the Certified Forester program is to serve as the competency and credentialing standard for foresters; recognize a forester's education, professional experience, and commitment to the ongoing pursuit of knowledge; promote continuing education in forestry and associated disciplines; and increase public awareness of the forestry professional.
The OSAF Special Projects Grant Program financially assists OSAF chapters to meet the goals of SAF. Any projects that support and further the mission of SAF and OSAF are eligible for funding.

With the leadership of Eric Kranzush and Foxie Proctor, Oregon Society of American Foresters (OSAF) established a sub-fund of the Oregon Natural Resource Education Fund (ONREF) in 2005 to help create transitions from high school forestry education to Oregon State University’s forestry programs. These funds provide opportunities for high school students to learn about how forestry can help them reach their career goals through higher education
to foster forestry education opportunities for Oregon students and to enhance public knowledge about professional forestry. Now more than ever students need financial support to make it through college. Tuition and fees at OSU for the 2015/2016 school year are approximately $9,000. The Foundation will respond by increasing its scholarship to that amount for the 2015/2016 school year.
