American Tree Farm System is a free forest certification opportunity for small private forest landowners. Forest certification is the certification of land management practices to a standard of sustainability. The American Tree Farm System certifies forest management to eight standards of sustainability.

 

'Emerging Voices in Forestry' Returns to Portland Free Tickets Available for the October 15 Community Event

The Hagenstein Lectures, a new community event presented by the World Forestry Center and the Society of American Foresters, will return to Portland on Sunday afternoon, October 15. Continuing the “Emerging Voices in Forestry” series started in 2016, ten young foresters under the age 45 who are working at the forefront of social, economic, and environmental change will be featured.

Secretary Perdue Announces Tony Tooke as New Forest Service Chief

(Washington, D.C., August 21, 2017) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today announced Tony Tooke will serve as the new Chief of the U.S. Forest Service. Tooke has worked for the Forest Service since age 18 and currently is the Regional Forester for the Southern Region. Following the announcement, Secretary Perdue issued this statement:

Francesca Cafferata Coe Receives Society of American Foresters (SAF) National Award

Francesca (Fran) Cafferata Coe of Hillsboro, Oregon, will receive the Young Forester Leadership Award for her outstanding contributions to the forestry profession. She will be recognized during a ceremony at the 2016 SAF National Convention, November 2–6, in Madison, Wisconsin.
