Umpqua SAF Chapter to Hold First Service Day

The OSAF Umpqua Chapter will host its first annual Umpqua SAF Chapter Service Day.  This year the cahpter is partnering with Douglas County Senior Services to deliver firewood to five Douglas County elderly residents in need of warmth this winter.

On Saturday, October 17 chapter members will convene on Lone Rock Timber’s (2323 Old Hwy 99 S, Roseburg, OR 97471) lower shop yard to cut, split, and deliver wood to five Douglas-County elderly residents.  Lone Rock Resources has graciously donated the logs.

The plan is as follows:

-7:30am to 11:30am:  Chapter members will cut, split and load on trucks and trailers the wood until the wood deck is empty.

-11:30am to 12:30pm:  lunch will be provided by your Umpqua Chapter Executive Team (Burgers, Hot Dogs, drinks, etc)  shade/rain tents will be provided.

-12:30pm to 4:00pm: deliver wood to residents

Many hands make light work, especially when cutting firewood.  Unfortunately, because the national SAF blanket chapter insurance only covers members during chapter activities we can only allow chapter members to cut or split firewood.  If family or friends want to attend, which we happily encourage, they will have to limit themselves to non-life threatening activities.

To ensure we are capable of meeting the agree-upon commitment with Douglas County Senior Services RSVP’ing is really important for this project.

If you are interested in participating please respond to or 541-430-0485 with the following information:

-How many people plan on attending?

-Can you supply equipment? A saw, splitter, maul, pickup or trailer??

-Also please bring the following safety equipment!

-Proper boots

-Ear protection (ear plugs will be provided if you don't have some)

-Sun/Rain gear

-Chaps, if bringing a saw.
