Chapter Communications

I want to thank all of the people who attended the February Chapter meeting and particularly those that presented information about the Ashland Forest Resiliency Project. Presenters were:  Don Boucher, Marko Bay, Dr. Kerry Metlen, Jack LeRoy and Marty Main, who contributed to the presentation and discussion.  I also want to thank Blair Moody for coordinating the presentation.  It would be good to follow-up this meeting with a field trip to view the fuel reduction, thinning and logging accomplished in the Ashland Watershed.

The next Chapter meeting will be on Tuesday, April 16th at the Oregon Department of Forestry on Table Rock Road.  The meeting is in the afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.  The meeting will be integrated into a Workshop for the introduction to the Integrated Landscape Assessment Project, sponsored by Oregon State University.  A flyer will be sent shortly which introduces the ILAP Workshop.  The meeting is in the afternoon so that people from the various federal and state land management agencies can attend during working hours.  People are advised to arrive a little early because of the limited meeting room size and seating at the ODF building.

I attended the Oregon Society of American Forestry meeting in Salem. Following is some of the information from the meeting:

1.  Training Opportunity May 9th 2013 at OSU:  A multi-organizational template with guidelines has been developed for woodland landowners to be able to update their management plans.  Training of Tree Farm Inspectors, Foresters, Master Woodland Managers, Extension Agents, NRCS and SWCD Staff will be available in the use of the template and guidelines to assist landowners.  The previously described Training is from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30.  Following that training there will be refresher for Tree Farm Inspectors from 3:45 – 5:15.  Call Jen Rains at 503-588-1813 ext. 1, or email at [email protected] if interested and RSVP one week prior to the session.

2.  Sign-ups for the April 24 to 26th OSAF Annual Conference in Pendleton are being requested asap.  The OSAF website has all the sign-up information and the hi-lights.  The meeting will be held at the Wild Horse Casino, which incidentally, has a golf course.  Not only are the program and field trips outstanding, the low cost of registration and rooms is also impressive.  Check it out and sign up.
