The Oregon Society of American Foresters Foundation:
Providing educational opportunities for Oregon students!
Support the goals of the Foundation: to foster forestry education opportunities for Oregon students and to enhance public knowledge about professional forestry. Now more than ever students need financial support to make it through college. Tuition and fees at OSU for the 2015/2016 school year are approximately $9,000. The Foundation will respond by increasing its scholarship to that amount for the 2015/2016 school year.
The OSAF Foundation was conceived by Merle Lowden, prominent OSAF member, to promote forestry education. Established in 1985, since then the foundation has awarded over $160,000 in scholarships to over 30 deserving OSU undergraduates.
The Foundation is administered by a Board of Trustees. The 2015 Board of Trustees:
At Large Position 1: Ted Reiss - Chair
At Large Position 2: Kathryn Olsen
At Large Position 3: Matt Deppmeier
At Large Position 4: Robyn Tucker
At Large Position 5: Roger Lord
OSU Representative: Randy Rosenberger
Position 6: Matt Krunglevich, Chair, OSAF
Position 7: Steve Pilkerton, Chair-elect OSAF
In the 2015/2016 school year, the Foundation will support one student at OSU College of Forestry. Foundation goals include raising funds in the principal balance to provide long term stability in funding more excellent students through scholarships.
In 2015 and 2016, the OSAF Foundation plans to actively pursue fundraising opportunities through annual and planned giving campaigns and a fall golf tournament. The Foundation will also recognize sustained forestry professionalism by honoring SAF Fellows at a spring luncheon, and maintain and build knowledge of the Foundation with SAF members.
Kessinger named OSAF Foundation scholarship winner
The Trustees of the Oregon SAF Foundation are pleased to announce the selection of Jessica Kessinger as the recipient of the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 Foundation Scholarship. The $9,000 scholarship is the only scholarship being awarded by the Foundation for the these school years.
Kessinger, a motivated and energetic Engineering student at OSU, will be finishing her degree in 2016 with a focus on international studies. She is currently chair of the OSU Student Chapter of SAF and has provided excellent leadership in many extracurricular activities and travel opportunities for students in the chapter. This fall she will lead a contingent of OSU forestry students to Baton Rouge, LA for the annual meeting of the national society of SAF. Jessica has created a broad base of experiences by traveling internationally, working in her hometown community, being a research assistant at OSU, being a peer mentor at OSU, and working as an intern in a unique collaborative partnership at the Ashland (OR) Forest Resiliency Project. Jessica will be successful as a professional forester in the future due to her drive to learn and experience all that OSU has to offer.
The OSAF Foundation was established in 1985. The major goal of the Foundation is to fund scholarship(s) for outstanding students in SAF-accredited programs at Oregon universities. For more information about the Foundation and how you can contribute, visit www.forestry.org
