Forest Products Legislative Reception to be held on January 22, 2015

Washington State Society of American Foresters is hosting the third annual Forest Products Legislative Reception in Olympia on Thursday, January 22, 2015. Please plan on attending. We are well supported by several companies and organizations and have reached out to smaller non-profits encouraging them to attend. 

University of Washington SAF Student Symposium Held on November 16th

 Cooperative at the University of Washington, Center for Intensive Planted-forest at Oregon State University, and US Forest Service's Pacific Northwest Research Station.  The outcomes provide information for wood property model construction and further research in assessing stand conditions on Douglas‐fir plantations. She would be presenting some results in growth parameters and wood property respects. 

WSSAF Annual Meeting

 The program focused on dry forest restoration strategies and treatments with an outstanding cadre of speakers from the US Forest Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, a non-governmental organization, and a consultant from British Columbia. These presentations were excellent and provided ample time for questions and answers.

Members Honored at WSSAF Annual Meeting

  Paul Wagner of Darrington received a Special Award of Recognition at the meeting. Paul is a forester with Atterbury Consultants working with private forest landowners in northern Washington. He was recognized for his continuing efforts to promote professional forestry education and networking by organizing meetings and educational events in the North Puget Sound region.

Phellinus sulphurascens

 On May 19th, Pam Phillips (GRCC graduate) and Amy Kroll (DNR pathologist) gave a presentation to the South Puget Sound Society of American Foresters in the Green River Community College 'school forest' on Phellinus sulphurascens, a destructive and often fatal root rot disease that affects the root systems of Douglas-fir trees.
